With the menu "House Control",
individual rooms of the house or apartment can be selected using
voice commands. In addition, there is an item on the menu called
"Scenario", with which all pre-configured switching processes can
be called up.
Once a room has been selected, the choice of room will at first
be confirmed by the system using oral feedback. Using the command
"Help Menu", a list of all fittings available in the room chosen
can be requested for the better orientation of the user. After selecting
a fitting (e.g. "Ceiling light"), the switching operations appropriate
to the fitting can be started using the relevant word of command
(e.g. "on", "off" or "status"). If no valid word of command is given
within a set period of time, the controls will be switched to "Standby"
mode (control menu). This ensures that switching operations are
not started accidentally.
After executing all commands to carry out a switching operation
(e.g. "Living room - ceiling light - switch on"), the system returns
automatically to the appropriate main menu (in this case "House
Control"). Independent of the time factor, the user can return to
the control menu using the command "back". If the user is in a submenu
(e.g. "Living room"), the command "back" will enable him or her
to jump to the next highest programme level (in this case "House
Control"). In order to simplify complex, frequently used switching
processes, the menu "Scenario" already mentioned can be used. Within
this menu, one single voice command will set off a predetermined
series of switching operations.
Example: The command "Good morning" in the menu "Scenario":
1. All blinds are rolled up.
2. Depending on the amount of light outside, any necessary lights
are switched on.
3. The temperature in the bathroom is set at the required level.
4. The coffee machine is switched on.
5. The radio is switched on.
6. The window in the bedroom is opened to air the room.
All processes can be programmed in accordance
with the customer's individual requirements. The number and complexity
of these processes is unlimited.
Components - Communication
In the menu "Communication", the system distinguishes
between the following commands: "Take calls", "Answer door", "Telephone
book", "Free dialling" and "Mailbox".
The command "Take calls" makes it possible
to answer incoming telephone calls.
If the call is not taken within a certain period of time - for example
6 rings - the caller is automatically transferred to the mailbox
(answering machine) and has the opportunity to leave a message.
If the system user answers the phone, the caller hears the text
"One moment please, you are being connected" and is subsequently
put through.
The system user can end the call at any time during the conversation
by giving the command "Sever connection", and will then be returned
to the control menu. If the caller ends the conversation, the system
will likewise automatically jump back to the control menu. This
applies to all telephone conversations.
The system also enables users to operate the
intercom used to open the door. After a visitor has rung the bell,
the user can connect to the intercom by using the command "Answer
door".
After completing the operation with the command "Sever connection",
the system asks the user if the door should be opened. If this question
is answered with "Yes", the system opens the door and subsequently
reverts to the control menu.
The command "Telephone book" enables the user
to make an external telephone call. The names stored in the telephone
book are linked to the corresponding telephone numbers, i.e. when
a stored name is given, the system will automatically dial the relevant
number.
The system repeats the name chosen by asking "Shall I call XYZ?"
This prevents the system from dialling the wrong number. If this
question is answered with "No", the user is automatically returned
to the menu "Telephone book" and can make another choice.
In addition, by using the menu "Free dialling",
it is possible to make a telephone call by separately stating each
of the numbers to be dialled.
This applies to both internal and external calls. On registering
a pause after the string of numbers to be dialled is complete, the
system will repeat the numbers given and after asking a yes/no question
about whether the number should be dialled, will respond accordingly.
In order to be able to make external telephone calls, it is necessary
to have an ISDN cable connected to the telecommunications box.
Using the menu "Mailbox", it is possible to
replay, delete or save any messages received. The mailbox is protected
from unauthorised access by a security code. The security code is
entered by voice command (as described under "Free dialling") and
can be set in accordance with the user's wishes.
Components - Infrared
Every function of the user's infrared remote
controls has to be programmed into the system. These functions are
linked with user-defined commands and then appear in the submenu
of the corresponding equipment (e.g. video).
Example:
Entertainment/video/switch on - causes the system to send the infrared
code necessary to switch on the video recorder.
As most home entertainment equipment is switched on and off with
the same button, if the command "Switch on" is given to a piece
of equipment which is already switched on, this will cause the system
to switch the equipment off.
Therefore it is a good idea to maintain visual contact to any equipment
operated by infrared remote control, in order to avoid giving erroneous
commands.
However, in principle it is also possible to operate the equipment
without visual contact or being within the range of the remote control
box. Incidentally, this applies to all switching operations and
functions.
98% of all home entertainment equipment on
the market can be controlled reliably with the system's infrared
controls. Please contact us to ensure that you do not purchase equipment
which belongs to the remaining 2%.
