Do the health insurance organisations recognise
the system as an aid for the disabled?
Where such systems are concerned, decisions about financial assistance
are made separately in each case.
Do telephone costs arise when
the system is used?
Only for external telephone calls. The connection with the computer
needed to control all operations is internal and therefore free
of charge.
Which house automation systems
are supported?
At present, the EIB Instabus is supported as the bus for the house
installations. A connection to other bus systems is planned depending
on market developments in this sector.
What kind of infrared equipment
is supported?
98% of all home entertainment equipment on the market can be controlled
reliably with the system's infrared controls. Please contact us
to ensure that you do not purchase equipment which belongs to the
remaining 2%.
Can I continue to use my existing
electrical fittings?
Existing fittings can be used provided they consist of EIB components.
Traditional fittings need to be adjusted or have components added
by a specialist.
What kind of changes to my
electrical fittings are necessary?
In the case of traditional fittings, switches and cables will have
to be refitted. This means that work will have to be carried out
on concealed cables.
Can several people use the
system at the same time?
If a license for multiple channels is obtained, the same number
of people can use the system as there are channels. In such a case,
each user (extension of the telecommunications box) can be allotted
his or her own part of the programme. This means that each member
of a household can control his or her own area but will not have
access to the controls of the other members. Communal rooms such
as the kitchen can be controlled equally by all members of the household.
Can I also operate the system
via the public telephone network?
In principle this is possible. However, for security reasons this
can only be effected by special programming for each customer, which
is not contained in the basic programme. In this case, it is important
that an external ISDN cable is connected to the telecommunications
box.
Is the system safe from unauthorised use?
Unauthorised use of the system from the public telephone network,
i.e. from outside, is impossible, as external access is only made
available using additional security measures. Unauthorised access
from inside, i.e. from another system extension, depends on how
the customer regulates access to each control telephone. Extensions
which have not been programmed to operate the system pose no security
risk.
Can I install the system
myself?
Because of the complexity of the system and the peripheral apparatus
used, it is not possible to install the system without a one-week
introductory course and a sound knowledge of the EIB bus system.
Which languages are supported?
As the command words are stored phonetically (e.g. CD= seedee),
there are no restrictions in this respect. For this reason, it is
also possible to take into consideration any speech impediment which
the user might have.
What happens if there is
a power cut?
If the system is connected to an emergency power supply, power failures
of up to half an hour can be bridged. If there is a longer power
cut and the computer is left without power, the computer must be
switched on using an ATX mains adapter. After the start process
has finished (booting), the system will again be operational and
can again be used by setting up the connection between the
computer and the control telephone.
I already have a PC. Can
I use this PC for the system?
For safety reasons, the system computer should only be used to operate
the system and not for any other applications.
Where can I try out or view
the system?
There is a test installation in Ransbach-Baumbach (near Coblenz)
which can be visited by appointment.
