Transmitters and Remote Controls Title
Picomed LCD Transmitters
Picomed remote controls (transmitters) with display are part of Picomeds products for environmental control systems. They transmit infrared light (IR) used to control IR-receivers. This is the same type of signals used by many of the apparatus for home entertainment. Picomeds trainable remote controls can learn signals from many of these apparatus.

To obtain the best range for the transmitter, it is best that it is pointed towards the receiver. Although this is not necessary, the IR signals will be reflected from walls etc in such a way as to still operate the system. To take advantage of these reflections, the distance between the transmitter and the receiver should be more than 1 metre.

Picomeds remote controls with display are available in 3 versions with 4, 8 and 18 keys. If there is more functions to control than the available number of keys on one page, one can use different levels or pages on the IR-remote controllers. A symbol in in the display indicates the page or level which is active. There are 10 pages available, and there are 100 symbols which can be linked to the pages.

The keys can be equipped with symbols to identify the key function e.g. "volume up" "channel down" etc. Fingerguides are also available depending on the needs of the user. It is possible to send up to 4 IR-signals in sequence on every key. It can be programmed to control different systems for different users. The remote control IR-transmitters are located in the front part of the unit as are the IR-sensors which are used to learn other IR signals. The display gives information when it transmits IR, when it receives IR, battery low condition and of course which page is chosen. It will also give information when entering one of the programming modes.

Pico4lcd

Picomed Pico4lcd IR-transmitter has 4 keys. If more than one page is unlocked, the remote control will transmit IR-signals from 3 of these. The lower key to the left (3) is in this case a "page select" key. A keystroke on this key will result in a page change. Up to 30 signals can be programmed.

Pico8lcd

Picomed Pico8lcd IR-transmitter has 8 keys. If more than one page is unlocked, the remote control will transmit IR-signals from 7 of these keys. The lower key to the left (7) is in this case a "page select" key. A keystroke on this key will then result in a page change. Up to 70 signals can be programmed.

Pico16lcd

Picomed Pico16lcd IR-transmitter has a total of 18 keys. 16 of these keys can transmit IR-signals on up 10 different pages. Up to 160 signals can be programmed.
§ In addition one key is used for a lock code marked "L".
§ The lower key to the left is always used as a page select key marked "S". It has no function if only one page is open. The key does not transmit IR signals.

Using the Transmitters.

Press a key when you want to transmit IR from the transmitter. If possible, point the remote controller towards the receiver, but this is normally not necessary because the IR-signals will be reflected inside the room.
When transmitting IR, the remote controller will indicate this with a flying bird in display .The remote controller will repeat the signals if you keep holding the key pressed. If more than one IR-signals is active for the key, the last IR-signal in the sequence will be repeated. If no IR-signal is programmed on the key a "no IR" symbol will appear in the display.
The display shows an icon for the chosen page. To select the next page, press the lower left key once. Any "locked" pages will not be shown .The page number will be seen in the upper right corner. If only one page is unlocked, the page select key on the Pico16lcd will have no function. On the Pico4lcd and on the Pico8lcd the lower left key will be used as an ordinary IR-transmitting key if only one page is unlocked. On the Pico16lcd the lower right key ("L") is independent of the chosen page. It will send the same signal regardless of what page is selected.
The symbol on each key can be changed to suit different individuals. It can be a letter, a number or a figure for instance, and they can be printed out on ordinary paper or on a transparent over head foil. A PC compatible floppy disk is enclosed with the IR remote controller, and it contains a programme to print the strips with key labels.
